In addition to the numerous art-historical references in Bruneau's work, literary references are also widely present. In 1985, in an exhibition at the academy gallery in Waasmunster, Bruneau showed a series of drawings centered around the figure of Robinson Crusoe. Art historian Van Den Abeele wrote about this: 'The occasion for the project was the chance reading of Defoe's book. Especially the survival drive that emerges from the book seemed an attractive subject for this young artist—the identification is obvious. Bruneau recognized elements that had already played an important role in his earlier work: exoticism and the primitive visual language he had already introduced into his work through Cubism.'

13 businesses located on Wolstraat are presenting a work by visual artist Bruneau in their windows throughout the month of February. Through QR stickers on the windows, you can access 13 short texts, each sketching a fragment of Bruneau's work. Together, they provide a brief insight into his oeuvre.
