In 1991, Bruneau and his then-gallerist Christ Delaet caused a sensation. In May of that year, they presented the largest screen print in Belgium (202 X 160 cm). The screen print consisted of a collage of 45 portraits with a hat. The screen print was titled 'Mad as a hatter'. This English expression refers to very eccentric, insane, unpredictable, or inappropriate behavior. In the 18th and 19th centuries, a large proportion of hatters displayed strange neurological symptoms resulting from mercury poisoning during the processing of wool into felt. A copy of the screen print can be seen at the exhibition at Wolstraat 33.
13 businesses located on Wolstraat are presenting a work by visual artist Bruneau in their windows throughout the month of February. Through QR stickers on the windows, you can access 13 short texts, each sketching a fragment of Bruneau's work. Together, they provide a brief insight into his oeuvre.
